Westmoreland Trip - August 20-22nd.

Posted on Aug 12 2010 - 7:17am

Troop 840 will be taking our August camping trip to Westmoreland State Park the weekend on August 20-22. The park is located on the 5-mile wide Potomac River, above majestic Horsehead Cliffs, near Montross, Virginia. We will have lots of opportunities for fun and advancement, fishing, hiking, and possibly a few Park Ranger led activities. The permission slip for the trip is due on Moday August 16. I realize this is not an ordinary meeting, but I will be there to collect the slips and verify who will be going.

Because our meeting on the 16th is our only meeting before the trip, I would appreciate an early email from you just to let me know what Scouts and adults from your family expect to attend. I am looking to make reservations over the next few days (before the meeting on Monday), and want to make sure the reservations are enough to cover everyone who wants to go, while not over extending our expenses.

This will be an excellent opportunity for those who need cooking for advancement. Please let me know if your son would like to do any cooking related to advancement, or just likes/wants to cook. I will try to accommodate everyone who need these requirements for advancement, but due to the amount of meals being prepared, there is a possibility that not everyone will be able to get everything done.

Since there has been little to no planning for this trip, I will be working with the boys who need cooking for advancement to create the menus. We will stop at a grocery store on the way, and do the shopping.

Calendar Change - Family Picnic set for Monday, August 16th

Posted on Jul 22 2010 - 8:03am

Please make a change to your calendar for the August pool party & planning picnic.
The new date is August 16th at the Bon Air Community Pool. More details to follow but we wanted everyone to mark their calendar now.

For new families, this is the gathering where the leaders will roll out the weekend trips for the 2010-2011 year. Parent volunteers will be asked to sign up and coordinate a weekend trip for our scouts. The scouts & PLC help decide what weekend trips they would like for the next year.

We look forward to your participation!!

Monday July 26th Meeting at Singleton Campus

Posted on Jul 20 2010 - 5:09pm

Monday's meeting will be at the St. Michaels Singleton Campus - it's the Champs swim meet at Bon Air pool and parking will be at a premium. This meeting will be a great opportunity for those Scouts who went to Brownsea Island to get the requirements signed off in their books. There will also be time for some games, frisbee etc.

Due to the number of Scouts from the Troop who will have left for the Jamboree, this will be a smaller meeting - but I encourage all who can attend to be there - and bring your books.

Thanks,

Nick Helmore
