Ukrop's Golden Gift Award Received

Scouts, Family, and Friends,

Though the troop had a late start in the Golden Gift Awards Program, we were able to turn in enough points and receive a $55.40 fund reward from Ukrop's. Thank you all for your support of Troop 840.

God and Life Program

Hello Scouts,
An announcement came my way and I thought I'd pass it along. Coming soon is a God and Country Religious Awards Program for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the 9th thru 12th grades. If you are interested, I'll print up the flyer and have it at the next troop meeting. The following is the dates and times and registration information.

Drivers - Troop needs your vehicle and insurance information ...

The Troop requires adult drivers to transport Scouts and adults to and from outings and other Scout activities. When we file a tour permit, with council or national, we are asked to include a list of drivers, vehicles, and insurance coverage on those vehicles.

2010 Rank Requirement Changes Effective January 1, 2010

The centennial edition of the Boy Scout Handbook will soon be available, and with the new handbook come several rank requirement changes that will be in effect as of January 1, 2010.

Tenderfoot

  • A Scout must teach another person how to tie a square knot using the EDGE model (explain, demonstrate, guide, and enable).
  • He must also be able to discuss four specific examples of how he lived the points of the Scout Law in his daily life.

Second Class

  • A Scout must discuss the principles of Leave No Trace and explain the factors to consider when choosing a patrol site and where to pitch a tent.
  • He must explain what respect is due the flag of the United States.
  • He must again discuss four examples of how he lived four different points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
  • He must earn an amount of money agreed upon by the Scout and his parents and save at least 50 percent of it.

First Class

  • An additional requirement to the 10 separate troop/patrol activities states he must demonstrate the principles of Leave No Trace on these outings.
  • He must discuss four more examples of how he lived the remaining four points of the Scout Law in his daily life.

Life

  • A Scout must use the EDGE model to teach a younger Scout a specified skill.

Star, Life, and Eagle

  • Troop Webmaster and Leave No Trace trainer are two new leadership positions.

Monday, August 10, 2009
5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Bon Air Community Center Pool
(across from St. Michael’s)

Hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks will be provided. Each patrol member/family is asked to bring the following to share:

Anteater & Flying Monkey---Dessert
Hawk & Platypus---Side Dish
You need only bring one item per family!

The fun starts at 5:30 PM for those who want to swim. Dinner will begin at 6:15 PM, followed by a discussion of next year's calendar and opportunities to volunteer. The pool closes promptly at 8:00 PM. We plan to be cleaned up and finished by that time.

New Eagle Rank Application

Starting August 1st, 2009 the national office will only be accepting Eagle Rank Applications submitted on the 2009 edition of the form. Please make sure that your scouts are aware of the change and that their paperwork is submitted correctly.
